How this word actually lands
“Probation” is used in British workplaces in much the same way as in India, but the surrounding tone can be different. In Britain, saying that someone is “on probation” at work is normally a routine description of the early period of employment. It does not automatically carry the threatening feeling that the employee is in trouble. You might hear, “I'm still on probation,” or “Her probation ends next month.” If discussing it professionally, there is usually no need to make the expression more complicated. “My probation period” is perfectly understandable, but British colleagues may simply say “my probation.” The useful point is not that the word is wrong—it is that the workplace context around it is usually more matter-of-fact.
