“Notice period” is used in Britain, so this is not an Indian-English mistake. British employees regularly talk about their notice period when discussing resignation and recruitment. The important difference is how naturally the phrase is used and how the conversation is handled. In an interview, you might be asked, “What's your notice period?” A straightforward answer is, “I have a month's notice,” or “I'm on a one-month notice period.” If you are negotiating a new job, the exact period can sometimes be discussed rather than treated as an absolute obstacle. “I need to serve my notice” is also understandable, but “I need to work my notice” is a useful British expression when talking about the period between resigning and leaving.
