How this word actually lands

“Photocopy” is perfectly valid British English, both as a noun and a verb. However, in everyday British workplace conversation, “copy” is often shorter and more natural when the context is already clear. You might hear, “Can you make me a copy of this?” rather than “Can you photocopy this?” Both are correct. Indian English also commonly uses brand names such as “Xerox” as a verb, but that usage does not transfer naturally into British professional English. If you are speaking or writing in a British workplace, “copy” or “photocopy” is the safe choice. The main lesson here is not that “photocopy” is wrong—it is that everyday British English often prefers the shorter expression when there is no ambiguity.
